Introducing Stratum Industries

Two brothers holding an American flag.

Last August I dropped out of Waterloo to work on something that later got acquired by Legora. I decided to leave after the acquisition since there was a much bigger mission to go after.

My brother Raj who was previously at Deel did the same - left grad school along with everything else behind to work on this.

Today we’re launching Stratum Industries - completely changing the way the American Government operates, making it the most AI run organization ever.

America’s always been the country where innovation’s been happening since the beginning. We had the first light bulb, the first powered flight, the first transistor, the internet and the moon landing. We landed a rocket on its own legs and flooded cities with self driving vehicles.

And every single one of these changes had to go through the constant back and forth between the government and the innovators for their approval. A new factory, drug or even a new mode of transportation - needs the approval of the Government to be deployed safely. This standard procedure is the only reason we are able to build at such a scale and have impact.

But here is the standard procedure. You fill out a form. You wait. You fill out more forms. A department asks you for something you already sent, so you send it again. You wait. Then you fill out more forms. Eventually someone approves it.

That worked fine in the 80s. It does not work when AI and robotics are moving this fast.

The government wants to move faster. But it does not have the right software to do it. The tools people open every morning to file and review millions of applications were built before AI existed. What we really need is to rebuild the entire layer here from ground up and completely revamp the system.

So today we’re introducing Stratum - a platform that eliminates the government’s backlog and reviews applications within seconds. Hundreds of AI agents run in parallel in the cloud, with a human kept in the loop to approve and full auditability at every step, so an entire backlog can be cleared in the time it used to take to review a single file. For each review it chooses the right model - making it the most accurate and cost efficient way ever to review applications at such a scale.

Clearing the backlog is only the starting point. We’re rebuilding the entire layer the government runs on - the reviewer and applicant sides - so filing and adjudication happen instantly instead of over weeks.

Our name - Stratum is a tribute to the people nobody sees - the reviewers, the adjudicators, the examiners who are going through hundreds of files so somebody else’s life moves forward. They are the layer this entire country is built on top of and they deserve the best tools.

We don’t want to be a nation where our most talented individuals building the next generation technologies are being held back by paperwork. For us to win and be at the forefront of innovation we need to upgrade the government and give them the best products powered with the right models for the right tasks so they can move at the speed of light.

Filing for a patent, registering a new drug, FDA licence, SEC filing, building permit, environmental permits, highway grants, FDA approvals, DMV licenses, passports, business incorporations - everything that involves filing and reviewing forms will be done on Stratum.

A veteran waiting on a disability rating, the retired couple waiting on a pension, the widow waiting on survivor benefits that decides whether she makes rent this month. These are the people who already did their part and will no longer wait.

The best process is no process. The best form is no form. You just get to work.

This year America turned 250.

By the 252nd there will be no paperwork left. You get a permit the way you call an Uber. That’s the experience we all deserve and want.

When this happens we will only be 1% there. Eliminating the backlog is just the beginning.

The Government cannot run on the speed of paper - we need to run on Stratum speed.

Backlog will no longer exist.

This is the work of the next century and we’re just getting started.

Thanks to Jared, Raphael and YC for taking a bet on us.
